We’ve never seen a robot vacuum look and feel as sleek as the X1 Turbo. The robot itself has a familiar circular design, but what grabbed our attention at first glance was the brushed metal finish, which looks lovely despite being made of plastic. The X1 Omni cleaned for up to 145 minutes in Auto mode before running low on battery life. That's a solid result, but not the best we've seen from an Ecovacs model (the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI cleaned for 171 minutes in Auto mode). The new T20 Omni has the same approach, so it should cope equally well with both wet spills and dried-on stains. And it's cheaper. You can also record short videos via the camera, communicate with your home via voice, and even let the robot patrol regularly around the home.

Other than glamour, the X1 Turbo is easily recognisable as an Ecovac machine. It's a tad taller and heavier than last-generation Deebot robot vacuums, but the basic design is similar, with the exception of a noticeable camera cut-out at the front of the X1, but more on this later. To wake up the voice assistant, just say, "OK Yiko," and wait for it to reply, "I'm here." Yiko supports a wide range of voice commands, including "start cleaning," "make a new map," "mop the kitchen," and, "go mop the floor around the living room sofa." You can even say "come clean here" if you're in the same room as the robot, and it navigates to your position. Similarly, when you tell it, "don't vacuum here," the vacuum moves to a different spot. Yiko is enabled by default; to disable it, just navigate to More Settings in the Ecovacs app, select Yiko Voice Assistant, and toggle it off. The Ecovacs app gives you good control of your cleaning preferences, as you can choose the X1 Turbo’s level of vacuum power, water flow level and whether it does a ‘normal’ mop or a deeper clean (the latter two settings refer to the speed at which the mops oscillate). Since mopping is the X1 Turbo’s specialty, you can instruct the charging station to clean the mopping pads and dry them with cool air via the app.

The X1 Plus has an air freshener built-in in the water tank. The X1 OMNI has a silver ion water sterilization (optional in the X1 Turbo model).
