About this deal

Be careful before you drive or use any machines or tools until you know how Nurofen Plus affects you.

If you no longer need to use this medicine or it is out of date, take it to any pharmacy for safe disposal. People with an active peptic ulcer or bleeding in the gut; those who've had two or more episodes of this in the past; and people who have ever experienced bleeding or perforation in the gut as a result of taking an NSAID. The most commonly observed adverse events are gastrointestinal in nature. Adverse events are mostly dose-dependent, in particular the risk of occurrence of gastrointestinal bleeding which is dependent on the dosage range and duration of treatment. SLE and mixed connective tissue disease. Use of ibuprofen in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and mixed connective tissue disease can increase the risk of aseptic meningitis. The use of an opioid to treat CNCP should only be considered after maximised nonpharmacological and non-opioid treatments have been tried and found ineffective, not tolerated or otherwise inadequate to provide sufficient management of pain. Opioids should only be prescribed as a component of comprehensive multidisciplinary and multimodal pain management. Patients with a history of GI toxicity, particularly the elderly, patients with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation or peptic ulcer haemorrhage related to previous NSAID therapy should report any unusual abdominal symptoms (especially GI bleeding) particularly in the initial stages of treatment.

The combined use of the three classes of drugs, diuretics, an ACE inhibiting drug (ACE inhibitor or angiotensin receptor antagonist) and an anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID or cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor) all at the same time increases the risk of renal impairment. The combination of drugs from these three classes should be used with caution particularly in elderly patients or those with pre-existing renal impairment. Risks from concomitant use of benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants, including alcohol. Concomitant use of opioids and benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants, including alcohol, may result in sedation, respiratory depression, coma and death. Because of these risks, concomitant prescribing of Nurofen Plus with CNS depressant medicines, such as other opioid analgesics, benzodiazepines, gabapentinoids, cannabis, sedatives, hypnotics, tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics, antihistamines, centrally-active antiemetics and other CNS depressants, should be reserved for patients for whom other treatment options are not possible. If a decision is made to prescribe Nurofen Plus concomitantly with any of the medicines, the lowest effective dose should be used, and the duration of treatment should be as short as possible. Patients should be followed closely for signs and symptoms of respiratory depression and sedation. Patients and their caregivers should be made aware of these symptoms. Patients and their caregivers should also be informed of the potential harms of consuming alcohol while taking Nurofen Plus.

6.6 Special Precautions for Disposal

Always make sure you speak to your doctor or pharmacist before you decide to stop taking any of your medicines. 7. Product details Physical dependence, which can occur after several days to weeks of continued opioid usage, results in withdrawal symptoms if the opioid is ceased abruptly or the dose is significantly reduced. Withdrawal symptoms can also occur following the administration of an opioid antagonist (e.g. naloxone) or partial agonist (e.g. buprenorphine).

Use in renal impairment. Renal impairment as renal function may deteriorate, especially in dehydrated paediatric patients (see Section 4.3 Contraindications; Section 4.8 Adverse Effects (Undesirable Effects)). aged between 12-18 years in whom respiratory function might be compromised, including post tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy for obstructive sleep apnoea (see Section 4.3 Contraindications; Section 4.4 Special Warnings and Precautions for Use, Paediatric use). Nurofen Durance 200 mg Medicated Plasters contain ibuprofen. For the short-term symptomatic treatment of local pain in acute muscular strains, or sprains.Follow all directions given to you by your pharmacist or doctor carefully. They may differ from the information contained in this leaflet. Effects on fertility. There is limited evidence that drugs which inhibit cyclo-oxygenase prostaglandin synthesis may cause impairment of female fertility by an effect on ovulation. This is reversible on withdrawal of treatment. Do not give Nurofen Plus to children under 12 years or to those aged 12 -18 years in whom respiratory function may be compromised.
