About this deal

Rich Johnston (June 29, 2020). "Retailers Asked to Hold Asterix Omnibuses For Two More Weeks". Bleeding Cool. books (to date) from Asterix and the Picts (2013) to Asterix and the Griffin (2021) written by Jean-Yves Ferri and illustrated by Didier Conrad They’re good for older kids and for adults – there’s enough subtle humour that they work for grown-ups. Lots of funny names. I never quite warmed to the discord in the village plots as much – they fight enough with each other anyway, without anyone helping them.

Asterix and Obelix join the Roman Legion (in a parody of the French Foreign Legion) in an attempt to find the conscripted fiancé of Panacea, a villager on whom Obelix has a big crush. With an eclectic group of foreigners, they are sent to North Africa to fight the traitor Scipio. A poisoned Roman tax inspector is given sanctuary in the village. Asterix and Obelix are sent to Switzerland to recover edelweiss, which is needed to cure him.

A fakir from far-away India travels to Asterix's village and asks Cacofonix to save his land from drought since his singing can cause rain. Cacofonix, accompanied by Asterix and Obelix, must travel to India aboard a magic carpet to save the life of the princess Orinjade, who is to be sacrificed to stop the drought. Asterix Omnibus 1: Asterix The Gaul, Asterix and The Golden

Also in 1989–90 the first eight illustrated stories were reprinted in some locales as four books, each containing two of the original stories. Hachette, the rightsholder to Asterix has over all been against that any changes would be made to the artwork especially for this Papercutz reprint, however some character portrayals have been toned down and recolored to a smaller degree. Therefore the artwork has at large but not at whole been untouched by american editing for this Omnibus series. [4] Translation Press, Mark Kennedy The Associated. "Comic hero 'Asterix' plans friendly assault on the New World". The Chronicle-Journal. Escorted by two Arvernes chiefs, a mysterious teenager has just arrived at the village. Caesar and his legionaries seek her, and for good reason. In the village, it is rumored that the father of the visitor is no other than the great Vercingétorix himself. Caesar sends one of his advisors to the Gaulish village, in an effort to make them rich, decadent and utterly dependent on Rome. He starts by buying menhirs at ever-increasing prices, thus persuading most of the village to make useless menhirs, and in turn employing other villagers to hunt for their food. The plan goes awry when Caesar's treasury proves insufficient to fund the menhirs, and a campaign to sell them in Rome fails because of competition from Egyptian menhirs and slave-made Roman menhirs.

A collection of several short stories, including an experiment at different drawing and storytelling styles. Most stories are written by Goscinny. I think it’s pretty key that Great Crossing is from 1975 and Secret Weapon is from 1991 – feels like Uderzo didn’t really change with his audience. Uderzo’s final Asterix book is a franchise low-point. Bizarrely, it’s a satire of the French comic industry and a tribute to Walt Disney. Neither of these themes explains a story about two warring factions of aliens – it ventures too far from usual Asterix territory to feel like part of the series. As with other lesser Uderzo efforts the plotline relies on Getafix’s various potions for momentum.
