About this deal

This game take a bit of getting used to, especially when it comes to what on earth you’re supposed to do in the battle modes. Still, it’s an immersive titles that makes use of every inch of the DS, including shouting commands into the microphone.

Another weird thing that you might have noticed is the cel-shaded graphics. I guess this was Nintendo’s way of making a mature game fit into the family-friendly title list? Critics awarded Dual Strike the accolade of ‘Bet Strategy Game’ for the DS, and it sold over 35-million copies in its first 10 days! We’ve all played a WarioWare game before now. They’re weird, they’re bonkers, and they’re so fast that a cheetah would have a hard time keeping up with them. Mario Kart DS features all the same item-throwing, banana-dodging action as the other titles with some of the best courses in the series, in my opinion. The bottom touchscreen houses inventory and design tools for writing and drawing, and both screens move with a ‘rolling log’ effect to keep the sky visible at all times. 11. Professor Layton And The Curious Village (2007)In this adventure, Players take a lad named Brandt on a quest of epic proportions (isn’t that the case with every FF game?). There’s an evil witch, a country in peril, and a dodgy deal that sparked a whole load of trouble. Credit: Nintendo/Square Enix Despite maintaining a signature style that is easily identifiable, many of the subtle adjustments made to the DS iterations of Pokemon video games have made a world of difference, from being able to trade creatures online to touch-based commands. All of this is incremental, yet it's important. The Pokemon games of today, while somewhat aesthetically similar to their predecessors, are considerably different in how they operate. That's a big reason the titles continue to sell more than they ever have, and it's also why this single franchise continues to be one of the biggest reasons why portable gaming still works for Nintendo. Create your own skate parks, build skaters, and beat your friends on local multiplayer. It’s the game that keeps on giving and a bona fide skating title… even if it does look a little weird. 50. WarioWare D.I.Y (2010) CREDIT: NINTENDO Gamers loved the Battle mode in Mario Kart DS and the WiFi functions before they shut down in 2014. All in all, a perfect racing game for playing on the go! 3. The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (2007)

HeartGold and SoulSilver improved an already groundbreaking formula by further enhancing game graphics and adding more Pokemon. The clunky menu system was done away with, and online trading and battling functions were added. This is a series that many Nintendo Switch fans should be well acquainted with. Animal Crossing has taken the world by storm recently, and Animal Crossing: Wild World was the first portable adventure in the series.Rhythm lesson can be best described as a shorter touch based version of guitar hero. On screen are four horizontal line that are each coloured differently and on the rhythm of the song that is playing crystals will slide one those lines from left to right, once those crystals reach the right side of the screen you will have to press the button next to the end of the line on the touch screen. It is also possible to make combos by not missing a note raising your score faster. After a brief period the game will pause and will show you the character dance on the music, for every note you managed to do correctly in the previous part she will dance elegantly and for those you have failed she will fall. Once the character is done dancing the rhythm game un pauses. You repeat this process four times till the end of the song. Depending on how well you performed this mini game you will be rewarded a variable amount of experience points for your coordination and artistry. Difficulty alters depending on the initial level of your coordination and your artistry. The Rhythm Lesson mini game is accessed in the gym. Curling This is a classic Mario adventure and the best selling Mario RPG of all time. It’s my second favourite, however, being pipped to the post by Number 6 on our list. 15. Nintendogs (2005) We love Castlevania games here at Retro Dodo, and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow has to be one of our favourites in the canon.

The fact that you control the environment around you and not the mini mechanical Marios take a bit of getting used to, but it makes for brain-tinglingly-difficult gameplay at times. Gamers encounter different Pokemon in the Dream World that are not available to catch in the main world. They can also grow berries and train Pokemon in a Dream House too. Rather than moving your Kirbys around using the D-Pad, the player uses the DS stylus to direct the pink army through each level.Gameplay does look a little like a bomb has gone off in a clip art factory at times, but its a fun game to play with lots of exciting and nail-biting features. It’s one of my favourite strategy games for a handheld and the perfect title for puzzle fans. 42. Tetris DS (2006) Credit: nintendo Many critics consider Pokemon Platinum to be the ultimate remake of the ultimate Pokemon games. With praise like that, you can’t afford not to give it a go! 14. Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (2009) CREDIT: NINTENDO WarioWare D.I.Y comes with 70+ mini games preloaded. So if your art skills are sub-par like mine, then at least you can still have some good old-fashioned fun! 51. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (2009) CREDIT: NINTENDO/AKSYS GAMES
