About this deal

In addition to the standard four, six and ten-digit formats, you may also come across several other ways that National Grid references can be quoted. For example, the summit of Snowdon’s grid reference is ‘SH 609 543’, but this may also be referred to as: This is different to a Hewitt which applies to peaks in England, Wales and Ireland. By this definition a mountain is defined as being over 200ft (610m) in height but with a rise of 98.4ft (30m).

Located between the two peaks of Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach is Castell y Gwynt or Castle of the Wind. Castell y Gwynt is just a short walk from Glyder Fach summit but is actually the child summit of Glyder Fawr. It was reclassified as a Nuttall in 2007 but is not included in the Wales 3000s. The Cwm Bochlwyd Horseshoe is an epic Snowdonia adventure that is probably only surpassed by the Snowdon Horseshoe. This short loop consists of three grade 1 scrambles with moderate exposure. This route is recommended for experienced hikers/scramblers only. The full ten-digit grid reference with National Grid letter – ‘SH 60989 54379’ or without letters ‘60989 54379’ – the most accurate grid reference. Note that these longer grid references are hardly discernible at popular leisure map scales.Climb the mountains of Snowdonia with an experienced and qualified guide and experience some of the best mountain scenery in the UK

From a navigational point, this route is a little more challenging than the other walks since the trail is not always obvious. However, aside from the peaks, the trails will be much quieter than those on the Ogwen Valley side. The Landranger series of maps cover a larger area but shower fewer details than the Explorer series. They are ideal for long distance cycling, driving and holidays. The maps are 1:50,000 scale which means 2cm on the map equals 1 km on the ground.Llanberis Path is the easiest and longest of the six main paths to the summit of Snowdon. Originally, tourists were carried up this path on ponies and mules, and to this day it continues to be a pony path. After passing through the quarry the next climb begins for the craggy summit of Moelwyn Mawr. Take a moment to again enjoy panoramic views of Snowdonia National Park at the summit. Descend Moelwyn Mawr to the southeast before making the final ascent to Moelwyn Bach, which is thankfully 60m lower than it’s bigger brother. From the Ogwen Visitor centre the path starts proper as it ascends into the picturesque Cwm Idwal. Passing around the shore of Llyn Idwal the next stage of the walk is to climb up alongside the Devil’s Kitchen to the plateau above. Cnicht is a perfectly shaped, pyramid mountain which is affectionately know as the Welsh Matterhorn. This full mountain day loop walk also takes in the peaks of Moelwyn Mawr and Moelwyn Bach, collectively known as the Moelwynions. Skirt around the right side of Castell y Gwynt before clambering up a bouldery path to the summit. From here it’s just a short walk onto the summit of Glyder Fach, with the Cantilever Stone just beyond.
