About this deal

At one point, the Werewolf Registry and Werewolf Capture Unit were both in the Beast Division, while at the same time the office for Werewolf Support Services was in the Being Division. These regulations and services were ultimately a failure, as no one would be prepared to walk into the Ministry to admit themselves as werewolves, and thus none took the prescribed responsibilities of the Werewolf Code of Conduct. Then again, another great example on drawing or animating any realistic expression in animation. It’s just another fun example on how I draw Lupin as a very expressive character. This was a very fun pencil sketch of Lupin, just being himself, telling Snape on sharing a Grindylow to Harry as the next study lesson for the next Defense Against the Dark Arts class, even though Snape was in the whatever mode. It’s funny that, I think, Lupin knows that Snape isn’t really into any of his things that he finds interesting since he knew Snape as young boys in Hogwarts, but it never bothered Lupin. He is still very thankful for Snape by making the Wolfsbane for him, so he could transform peacefully in his office with no feeling of intensive pain as a werewolf. Add three fairy wings to your mortar and crush them into a fine, even powder. Add the full powdered substance to the cauldron.

We can perhaps find support for this possibility from an earlier passage. When we actually see Snape deliver the potion on a prior occasion we find the following exchange:At this point in the brewing process, the potion will be a deep red, and the steam emitted will be a deep orange. Based on all quotes and evidence provided in both the question, answers and comments, I see no reason to exclude the possibility that the wolfsbane effect behaves the same way as ketosis does, i.e. that it requires to be taken for several consecutive days for the effect to activate, but failing to take it for a single day deactivates the effect. Wolfsbane Potion was invented by Damocles Belby at some point before the 1993–1994 school year. [12] [7] It was developed in the second half of the twentieth century and was the most successful treatment for werewolves. [13] It was invented before or during the werewolf Chiara Lobosca's attendance at Hogwarts ( 1984 to 1991). [10] The only known mention of the plant Aconite in the Harry Potter series comes from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in which Severus Snape interrogates Harry Potter about several different Potions. His first question is about the infusion of Asphodel and Wormwood, the second question is about a Bezoar and the third question is about the difference between Monkshood and Wolfsbane. Harry fails to answer all three of these questions and despite Hermione seeming to know these answers, Snape ignores her and reveals the answers himself. He claims that Asphodel and Wormwood combine together to form the Draught of Living Death which is the strongest sleeping potion in the world, Bezoar is a stone procured from the stomach of a goat that works as an antidote for most poisons, and Monkshood and Wolfsbane are the same things and they also go by the name of Aconite.

This plant was created for the Beta testing of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, but it along with other ingredients and potions did not make the final cut and were not released in the game. The completed potion exudes a faint blue smoke. According to Remus Lupin, it has a "disgusting" taste, and adding sugar to remedy this is not possible as that substance will render it ineffective. [1]if you are not a lycanthrope at all than taking the potion will give a strange effect. In Hogwarts Legacy, a student mentions that split her flask and was swimming in Wolfsbane Potion. As Hogwarts Legacy takes place in 1890, this would be at least 80 years before the potion was invented according to higher canon, making the mention entirely non-canonical and anachronistic. [18] Savage Potion: Can give the player lycanthropy when it is drunk, if player already has lycanthropy increases savagery level. Removed in the 1.10.2 and 1.11.2 versions of the mod. These are a couple of my drawings of the Grindylow, which it looks a lot like how we see these creatures from one of the Harry Potter films, particularly in the Second Task sequence from The Goblet of Fire. However, as much as I like drawing any of the characters from being inspired by the films from the past, I still have to design each character as how they should be from the books the way J.K. Rowling imagines them. In the case for the Grindylow character designs and drawings, done in digital drawing medium on Autodesk SketchBook, it was important to make the Grindylow a magical sea creature living underwater with tentacles and tentacle-like hair with little spots on top of its head, but looking ugly and creepy like a little sea monster with little horns, green skin, and having long, spider leg-like hands with claw, just like how J.K. Rowling described them: Wolfsbane appears in folklore for its link to werecreatures. If you are afflicted with lycanthropy and survive Stage 3 of wolfsbane, you're immediately cured of the lycanthropy. In the Harry Potter wizarding world, wolf’s bane potion was used to treat lycanthropy – that is, turning into a werewolf. Professor Lupin took wolf’s bane potion during a full moon. This specimen of wolf’s bane ( Aconitum callibutryon) was collected in 1979 – in Romania no less, where werewolves are a well-known part of regional folklore. Maybe Ron Weasley’s brother, Charlie, encountered this species during his time in Romania? There was a terrible snarling noise. Lupin's head was lengthening. So was his body. His shoulders were hunching. Hair was sprouting visibly on his face and hands, which were curling into clawed paws" — Description of a Remus Lupin's transformation [src]

Potions: Damocles Belby was adept with making potions. He was one of Horace Slughorn's finest students, and after graduating Hogwarts, he developed an accomplished career as a potioneer. He managed to invent the Wolfsbane Potion, a potion "particularly complex" according to Remus Lupin. [4] The fact that the potion must be taken regularly in the week prior to the full moon also proves critical. It transpires that missing even a single dose of the potion renders it useless, so Lupin's having forgotten it once causes him to transform to a mindless beast in the closing scenes of the book. This allows Peter Pettigrew to escape. Pettigrew's escape is necessary for Voldemort's off-scene return from Albania and rise to power later in the series. In the books, it is mentioned that the werewolf resembles a normal wolf in appearance, save for a few distinguishing traits. This is not the case in the film, as Lupin in his werewolf form is shown as having a gaunt, humanoid, hairless appearance, with a coyote-like face and no tail. Aconite, a member of the buttercup family, was believed to be an important ingredient in witches' flying ointments. [12] [13] Leader in the werewolf community and an ally of the Death Eaters who rallied many werewolves to their side, noted to be the most savage werewolf in history, incarcerated after the Second Wizarding War.

Wizards and Muggles alike can fall victim to serious diseases and afflictions. As mentioned in the previous lesson, there are, of course, magical means to deal with issues that need surgery. Most commonly, charms are used to remove cancerous growths and other unhealthy cells, including the appendix. However, after these charms have been used to remove the unhealthy cells, other healing potions are used to contain and improve the damage. Typically, vitamin elixirs as well as additional use of Immunoelixir, which builds the immune system, are utilized. Untreated and severe mundane illnesses, including pancreatic cancer, for example, are as fatal to magical kind as they are to Muggles, and we do not yet have solutions to every disease. The term comes from Ancient Greek λυκάνθρωπος, λύκος being "wolf" and άνθρωπος translating to "human". Bring the heat up to 383 Kelvin (110°C/230°F) for 20 seconds , and then take the cauldron off the heat entirely. Despite being described in the book as thin and nervous-looking, he is portrayed in the film as gluttonous and somewhat ill-mannered, speaking with his mouth full of profiteroles as he shovels it into his mouth at the meeting of the Slug Club; he also has a rather round face, possibly hinting that he may be quite fat.

The monthly transformation of a werewolf was extremely painful if untreated and was usually preceded and succeeded by a few days of pallor and ill health. The werewolf could display irritation towards people while in the ill following state. [1] While in their wolfish form, the werewolf would entirely lose its human sense of right or wrong. However, it is incorrect to state (as some authorities did, notably Professor Emerett Picardy in his book Lupine Lawlessness: Why Lycanthropes Don’t Deserve to Live) that they suffered from a permanent loss of moral sense.

References from the canon

Following its brewing and transfer to clear crystal phials, the potion requires a maturation period of 2 days . During this time, the potion should be kept at room temperature in a darker environment. Storing the potion inside a cabinet without a glass front would suffice for the potion’s maturation. A prop made for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban includes a large number of werewolf lore from the 1995 video game The Beast Within, but as this text includes several ideas that contradict higher sources, it should not necessarily be considered canon to the Harry Potter universe. [23] The contradictory claims include: A mixture of powdered silver and dittany applied to a fresh werewolf bite would seal the wound and allow the victim to live on as a werewolf, although tragic tales were told of bite victims begging for death rather than becoming werewolves. [1] The Wolfsbane Potion, invented by Damocles Belby, allowed werewolf drinkers to keep their human mind during transformation. [1]
