About this deal

A Lockshield valve is used to adjust how quickly a radiator takes before warming up – opening means more hot water flows through quicker whereas closing slows down the heating process, so things do not get too hot too fast. However your valves do an important job in ensuring the correct amount of hot water flows in and out of your radiators - ultimately making sure that your room is at your desired temperature. On frigid winter nights, there’s nothing worse than a stubbornly cold radiator with no apparent fix. By now, the system should have cooled again, and you should be nicely rested – we are nearly there so do not worry. It’s advisable to bleed and balance your radiators at least once a year, at the beginning of the cold season.

If they are, this means that your radiator system is out of balance and usually when most people read that, they panic and start playing with the valves to get it right. Setting the valve to 0 means the valve is completely off (or closed) and the frost setting can be used to stop your pipes from freezing if you're away during cold weather. This is the original type of radiator valve, which only has 2 positions – on or off – so the only choice you have is to allow water to flow, or not. Well, probably not so much but this is why it is good to have another pair of hands or a family member to help you. TIP: It’s vital that you leave a few minutes after each adjustment of the radiator valves to allow the temperature to change.Any combination of adaptor, handle and/or extension for 3/8in sockets can then be used to increase accessibility, torque, convenience etc.

it was a long rectangle of metal with 2 points at one of the thin ends and several stamped holes along its length.

Trade Radiators are proud to offer the best quality, and value, radiators, towel radiators, electric radiators and radiator valves available on the web.

Once the radiator is hot, take a temperature reading where the pipework meets the floor or wall (on the lockshield valve side). If you are looking for a new set of valves (TRV and lockshield) then make sure you take a look at out extensive and stylish range of valves. Increasingly common on modern radiators in new-build homes or those with upgraded heating systems, TRVs tend to be used instead of manual twist valves. When it comes to your last, slowest-heating radiator, you might find the lockshield valve needs to be opened completely.
