Although not as strong as many peated malts out there, Ledaig is full of flavour and is a top quality malt. Ledaig 18 ages in ex-bourbon casks for 16 years. Then it is transferred to sherry casks for a 2-year finish. From the color of Ledaig 18 alone, it appears the finish is much deeper and longer than most sherry-finished Islay whiskies, as well, and here we really see the best of both worlds — smoky peat meeting sweet sherry. Ledaig has a lot in common with Islay, namely the use of peated malt, but it cuts a much different figure than your typical Islay peat bombs. Primarily that is because this 18 year old malt is finished with sherry casks, a practice that is not unknown in Islay but which isn’t all that common. They are doused in sherry and cinnamon, which gives a delicate spice and a hint of warmth to the overall dram.

The award is the latest addition to Ledaig 18-Year-Old’s trophy cabinet, having previously won gold awards at the 2022 and 2021 World Whisky Awards, being named the Best Scotch Islands Single Malt.We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Finished in sherry casks, this is a rich and fruity expression with hints of smoke and plenty of character.

Nose: seaweed notes and eucalyptus, followed by mineral smoke and oyster shells. Hints of brass polish. While there is a hint of berries and tobacco, the sherry is not very prominent. Then a firm sooty note comes forward, as well as a light farmy note.If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. I bought this Ledaig 18 Batch 3 Spanish Sherry Wood Finish for around P8,000 locally. Yup, way above the regular price, but I was asked to buy something interesting for a family gathering. This is bottled at 46.3% and is unchillfiltered, said to be released in 2016. If Whiskybase is correct on this bottling date, then local drinkers really have a lot of room to improve when it comes to knowing what to drink. They are missing out. Ledaig 18 Year Old Batch 3 – review Hi Bifter, I totally agree with you on Ledaig being able to match Campbeltown. The almost non-existent sulfur notes was a delight!
