About this deal

The paint has a lovely viscosity to it, no water required (unless spraying of course). The paint just flows from the brush, making it a pleasure to work with. Inhibits the growth of mould which is essential if you have moisture issues in your kitchen or bathroom When it comes to trade wood and metal paints our choice of fast drying, non-drip and high gloss paint finishes come in a range of colours and are suitable for multiple uses. I use this myself as my go-to ceiling paint and can vouch for its quality at hiding imperfections. Oddly enough, after a couple of coats, it looks as if it hasn’t covered well. But you just need a little bit of patience. As it dries and hardens, the topcoat becomes fuller and more opaque to leave you with a lovely solid finish that doesn’t flash when touching up or when exposed to critical lighting. While Dulux and Johnstones offer plenty of choices, arch-rival Crown’s contribution to our shortlist of the best emulsion paints is about value.

If you’re worried that this is going to make your surface look shiny, you don’t need to be. Most emulsions come in a flat or matt finish which essentially means you’ll be getting a pure, modern white look without the high sheen. How to Paint Using Emulsion As always, the way you paint will depend on which emulsion you have at hand but there are a few tips you can follow to get that perfect, modern finish. Streaks and picture framing apparent even after 3 coats which are supposed to be non existent with this paint. In terms of application, the Valspar Tough Matt flows smoothly, especially when it’s thinned down a bit. This minor adjustment helps to mitigate framing and flashing issues commonly seen with pure brilliant white emulsions. Additionally, a drop of water can further improve the paint’s application. Sometimes, without added water, the paint may drag a little when rolled over the cutting-in.Covaplus is an unbeatable choice for achieving a consistent, pleasing look throughout your home. This white emulsion paint is not just about exceptional finish and durability, but also about providing value for money, making it my go-to choice for my own projects. Value is the only thing counting against Johnstone’s entry, which has the widest choice of colours and offers generous coverage. However, costing almost twice as much per litre as Dulux’s offering, it’s simply too expensive.

With its high opacity, it bleaches out beautifully when drying, injecting a fresh brightness to the walls which is ideal if you’re painting rooms that get minimal natural light. Perfect Matt is Johnstone’s premium emulsion, designed to rival the designer brands. Available in white, or just about any colour from the vast range at Johnstone’s Trade. This emulsion is available online and used on interior walls and ceilings. Touch dry in around 2 hours, recoat time is approximately 4 hours, depending on conditions. This is my Johnstone’s Perfect Matt review. I hope you find it useful. Not suitable for ceilings due to the potential for flashing with natural light (I recommend MacPherson’s Eclipse for ceilings) Ask any professional decorator worth their salt how good Zinsser paints are and they will tell you that they’re one of the most reliable brands in the industry. With that in mind, Zinsser Permawhite is a no-brainer if you’re looking for a white emulsion that can handle the vigours of kitchen and bathroom environments. Trade paint covers in fewer coats, has much better opacity and lasts much longer than retail paint. Anti-Reflex 2 in white and Macpherson Eclipse don’t picture frame, go patchy and I’ve touched it in without issue. The big difference the Perfect Matt is how white the paint is. I’m a big Anti-Reflex fan, but the Perfect Matt is definitely the crispest, bright white I’ve ever seen. Whilst the opacity isn’t great, I give Zinsser Permawhite a solid 9/10. It’s resistant to moisture and can be cleaned many times over which makes it the perfect investment for kitchens and bathrooms.
