About this deal

A stunning, clever and ingeniously plotted thriller with jaw-dropping gasp out loud twists The Sunday Express This book dives into a few different storylines that explode after 22-year old Olivia is declared missing. After she's declared missing, detective Julia is on the scene to investigate. Once Julia begins to try and solve this mystery, she finds out that she's personally connected to this kidnapper. Julia must decide what is the right thing to do because ultimately now her family is a stake if she doesn't play this strategically. Julia is being forced to frame someone for Olivia's murder or else this person will ruin everything. What is Julia supposed to do? This is a DNF for me at 50%. I am SO BORED, this book is very slow moving. I just don't like this author's style of writing and switching POV's. I know that everyone states that the second half gets better but I'm just not invested in this story enough to continue. McAllister piles twist on startling twist, but always in the service of carefully drawn characters with real human problems. A first class thriller Mail on Sunday In my opinny, this was def stronger than Wrong Place Wrong Time. Maybe it's because I knew to expect 36 commas per sentence, but it didn't bother me as much this time around. Although the streets told me this was a slow burn, I found the pace was much faster than WPWT and baby bombshells were littered throughout. Idk what it is about her books, but in WPWT and this one, she caught me unawares time and time again.

My mind is truly and utterly blown (in the best possible way) after closing the cover of Just Another Missing Person. From the winding, deeply intricate plot to the positively earth-shattering, gigantic twists, this novel wholly lived up to Wrong Place Wrong Time, in my opinion. And, if you know, you know, but that’s really saying something. I listened on audio, as I read along with the book, and I think this helped prevent any confusion between the timelines and characters. The three narrators, Joanne Froggatt, Justin Avoth, and Kerry Wotton did an exceptional job bringing this story, and these characters, to life. After loving Gillian McCallister’s previous book, 𝘞𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦, 𝘞𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦, I knew I needed to get my hands on her newest, and ASAP. It. Did. Not. Disappoint. With jaw dropping twists, multilayered plot lines, and a really interesting mother/daughter bond that helps to fuel the intensity throughout, this book was loads of thriller fun and incredibly hard to put down.A thriller with depth! These are fully developed characters with the exception of our villain, and although all of the story lines didn’t come together in the end, I enjoyed this too much to care! Dually, within the story, banking so hard to the left that I drove off a cliff, the character identities piled up into a mess. And again, I love identities within identities. So, for me to complain about characters having a multitude of identities and motives (known and unknown)? There is a serious problem. I was with the story for the first half, and then I just… lost. Completely lost. I even tried relistening to chapters, but nope. I couldn’t tell why the reveals mattered or connected (most of them, anyway). Part of me thinks there was just too much story in this story. Gillian McAllister just tried too hard. Well done! It was a lot of thinking and fairly decent character development. I did struggle to get a different feeling for each person, but the mystery was sooo good! Loved that. Intense moral dilemma It was the first downright jaw-dropping twist, however, that turned this great novel into a truly fantastic one. That, of course, and all of those that followed in its wake. Even better, just like in Wrong Place Wrong Time, each turned this story on its head, creating a constantly morphing storyline that was accompanied by ever rising levels of suspense. And once all of the puzzle pieces slotted into place? Well, the revelations truly left me reeling.

When 22 year old Olivia vanishes following an appearance on a CCTV entering a dead end alley, her case is turned over to senior detective in charge of missing persons, Julia, who is dealing with her own familial issues. When the missing person’s case turns personal, Julia is forced to chose between her career and her family. Because her family's safety depends on one thing: Julia must NOT find out what happened to Olivia - and must frame somebody else for her murder . . .

Repetition -- oh my gosh, so much repetition of what is in Julia's mind. they also keep asking each other "are you okay", not sure why that was repeated so many times but it irritated me. Just Another Missing Person opens with 22-year-old Olivia’s disappearance. We see the case through the eyes of detective Julia, who has a teenage daughter of her own whom she’d do anything to protect. The more Julia dives into this girl’s life, the more she feels her daughter’s long-buried secrets threatening to implode, and Julia wonders if it’s even possible to defend both her badge and her family—or if one of them will have to be sacrificed.

Short synopsis: Julia, a local detective, is leading a new case involving a missing woman. However, when the lines between her personal and work life begin to crosss, what will she do to protect her family? Another masterpiece from the queen of the emotional thriller. This book has one of the best twists I've ever come across. It's a super-smart detective story, a gripping missing-person thriller and a powerful mother-daughter drama, all rolled into one beautiful novel Beth O'LearyThe twists come steadily in the last half. She throws some curve balls that had me reevaluating and trying to connect dots that were scattered amongst the different POV's, oh who to believe, the puzzle gets even more complex as unknown motives come to light. I just knew the house of mirrors was destined to fall! This clever and endlessly surprising thriller is laced with a clever look at family and motherhood, and cements Gillian McAllister as a major talent in the world of suspense and a master of creating ethical dilemmas that show just how murky the distinction between right and wrong can be. Pros: simple mystery that was elevated by strong writing and intricate plotting, solid pace, loved the little reveals throughout, something about her storytelling always catches me unawares when the twists are revealed, interesting moral dilemma that could spark some juicy book club discussions Because the criminal at the heart of the disappearance has something she never expected. His weapon isn’t a gun, or a knife: it’s a secret. Her worst one. And her family's safety depends on one thing: Julia must NOT find out what happened to Olivia - and must frame somebody else for her murder. I have read 3 other Gillian McAllister's books. I have loved every other book, so naturally I dropped the other book I was reading and started Just Another Missing Person. This book did not disappoint while begging the question "how far would you go for someone you loved?" It was a slow burn at first but then continued to gain momentum while you drop your jaw at every corner you turn.
