About this deal

Most of the novel is set during the time of the Italian unification, specifically during the period when Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of Italian unification, swept through Sicily with his forces, known as The Thousand. Although The Leopard is a representation of 19th century Sicilian aristocracy, it is also a contemplative and ironic distancing from this same world. It is, above all, a novel that provides a profound meditation on transition and historical causality. To me the book swells up in a lot of human illusions, passions, everything that brings and links together money, status, power, expectations for wealth growth to gain control more and more over the ruling society, though traditions and stability in leading life are giving way. For the sake of appearances, we are told and re-told, in all kinds of interesting episodes throughout the novel that the land (Sicily) and its people are not fundamentally affected by change, because even if it changes what is changing, the change makes things to be the same, still. There seems a bit of paradox, initially, but there is a clear truth in it, too. The new grows out of the old, but also the new is the old, in a new old presentation. Ferdinand II, a Bourbon King of The Two Sicilies. Reigned from 8 November 1830 to 22 May 1859. Died shortly before the narration of The Leopard begins. The Bourbons ruled the kingdom from Naples and lived in the Caserta Palace. Any words of mine about this famous book would be superfluous, so I thought I'd just add some images to the beautiful opening paragraph...

The Leopard is the story of the old Salina Family and in particular of Don Fabrizio, a Sicilian prince, and the decline of aristocracy. The historical setting is overthrown of the monarchy in Naples by the uprising led by Garibaldi. It treats themes such as the power battle between the rich and the poor, moral decadence, love and marriage, the usual for the times. Poi, nel 1963 il film del conte Luchino Visconti. E io credo che matrimonio tra la pagina e lo schermo più perfetto di questo sia raro. nopțile petrecute în observator scrutînd rotirea agonică a aștrilor, făcînd calcule, așteptînd cometele; dar poate, își spune protagonistul, aceste ore prefigurează „beatitudinile morţii”; Maya was the perfect fit for Gorya and another reason I was glad I'd waited to tell this story. She has some surprising gifts and history. She's a strong woman and just as damaged as Gorya. un hotel din Palermo, bolnav și aflat la sfîrșitul vieții (știe că trage să moară), principele Salina vrea să calculeze cît timp a trăit în sensul cel mai propriu al cuvîntului. Cît timp a trăit efectiv într-o viață de 70 de ani? Să examinăm evenimentele („firișoarele de nisip în mormanul de cenușă al indiferenței”) pe care le notează cu plus (+):I have found very tender – though a bit flavoured in irony, sometimes even cruel cynicism – the wit-filled voice of the narrator as he dwelled over the history of the family’s decadence. I was curious to see if the main character is deployed – layer by layer – to his completely bare, naked soul. His mind is known and crystal clear voiced through the very interesting dialogues he carries with his family -- especially with his dearest nephew Tancredi, whom he loves more than his own children!, his priest, the local and central authorities, the countryside people. Eventually he accepts the unacceptable but still he wants to do it in its own way. Unfortunately, there is not much distinction in that part, because at the ultimate end he just understands what he felt so well and deeply during his whole long life: he always felt alone, and unique, and he knows too well that he is the last in his line, though the family somehow continues to lead further the name through his nephews.

I'm so excited for LEOPARD'S SCAR to be released Nov. 29, 2022! I think people will be surprised about the hero and heroine. I know I was! I really love this couple! And the cover is so beautiful! If we want everything to stay as it is, everything has to change." (spoken by Tancredi) [38] The Italian text is "Se vogliamo che tutto rimanga com'è bisogna che tutto cambi." I'm excited to share that Wild Rain is now available in French and Burning Wild will be released in French on August 25th, 2021!

Victor Emmanuel II, Savoy King of Sardinia from 23 March 1849 to 17 March 1861, and King of Italy from 17 March 1861 to 9 January 1878. Resident at the Royal Palace of Turin. In 1910, several decades after the Prince’s death, a group of clerics gathers in the elderly Salina sisters’ house to question the authenticity of their religious relics. Concetta, Carolina, and Caterina are all strong-willed spinsters renowned for their devout Catholicism; they are especially famous for these relics. Concetta is upset because she knows that this will be the last nail in the coffin of the Salinas’ reputation—they no longer have property or wealth, only piety. The manuscript was initially rejected in 1956 and 1957. Important Italian publishers such as Mondadori and Einaudi thought it ideologically deficient, reactionary for its representation of an immobile history, and structurally weak. It also failed to align with the mainstream Italian literature of the time. The novel contains both historical and autobiographical elements. During the time he was writing, Tomasi stated in a letter to his friend Baron Enrico Merlo di Tagliavia that Don Fabrizio, the "'Prince of Salina is the Prince of Lampedusa, my great-grandfather Giulio Fabrizio," [a] [23] but also (in a letter to Guido Lajolo) "friends who have read it say that the Prince of Salina bears an awful resemblance to myself." [24] While Don Fabrizio's circumstances and many of his traits are clearly those of di Tomasi's great-grandfather, this is not necessarily so true of his opinions. In a further letter to Lajolo, after he had written more of the novel, Tomasi doubled down on the autobiographical aspect of the character: "Don Fabrizio expresses my ideas completely." [24] David Gilmour, in his biography of Tomasi, sees the character as mainly autobiographical but adds that there is also a fair amount of "the person the writer would like to have been" in Salina's "arrogant confidence, his overt sensuality, his authority over others…" [25]

NUNC ET IN hora mortis nostrae. Amen.” The daily recital of the Rosary was over. For half an hour the steady voice of the Prince had recalled the Sorrowful and the Glorious Mysteries; for half an hour other voices had interwoven a lilting hum from which, now and again, would chime some unlikely word; love, virginity, death; and during that hum the whole aspect of the rococo drawing-room seemed to change; even the parrots spreading iridescent wings over the silken walls appeared abashed… John Gatta, Storrs (2004). Making Nature Sacred. Oxford University Press. p.191. ISBN 0198036949 . Retrieved 21 June 2014.As journalist and author, Luigi Barzini, once said, the book “made all us Italians understand our life and history to the depths.” As in the book, the film exudes the same infinite sadness tempered with bursts of disillusioned humor.
